Abstract
Accurate classification of malignant tumors is important in predicting the clinical course and in selecting therapeutic strategies. Although conventional light-microscopic examination of representative tumor tissue specimens often results in a definite diagnosis, in quite a number of cases only a differential diagnosis can be made. Then “special” techniques such as plastic embedding, electronmicroscopy, and immunocyto/histochemistry can be helpful.
