Pathology of Natural Heart Valves and Indications for Heart Valve Replacement

  • Chapter
Pathology of Heart Valve Replacement

Abstract

This chapter reviews the diseases leading to heart valve replacement, the clinical indications for valve replacement and the problem of matching prosthesis to patient. Pathological assessment of the aetiology of excised diseased native valves and the incidence of Aschoff bodies in surgically resected atrial appendages are also considered.
