Abstract
Much controversy has centered around the topic of cardiomyopathies since the term was coined by Brigden in 19571. The difficulty has been a tendency to use the term indiscriminately. To overcome the confusion the World Health Organization together with the International Society and Federation of Cardiology set up a Task Force. Their recommended definition and classification will be used2.
