Near-Infrared Array Images of Low-Luminosity IRAS Sources in Dark Clouds

  • Chapter
Formation and Evolution of Low Mass Stars

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 241))

Abstract

Dense cores in dark clouds with obscured young stellar objects in them (showing up as IRAS sources) are excellent targets for near-infrared imaging with the new 2-dimensional infrared arrays such as IRCAM at UKIRT (58 × 62 pixels, 0.6 arcsec/pixel). Here we report some of the first results with this instrument obtained for embedded sources in the Taurus and Ophiuchus clouds (L1489, L1495; Elias 21, Elias 22). We also discuss the promise of future observations.
