Modeling of Long-Decay Stellar Flares on EQ Peg and Prox Cen

Abstract

A magnetic reconnection model of solar 2-ribbon flares is applied to long-duration events observed by EINSTEIN and EXOSAT on the stars EQ Peg and Prox Cen. We show that the model is capable of reproducing the energy release rate and temporal evolution of the decay phase of the observed events, strongly supporting their identification as stellar counterparts of solar 2-R flares. We also use the model to put constraints on the physical parameters of the emitting region.
