Abstract
In addition to the external or direct sources of atmospheric wave motion discussed in the previous chapter, internal or indirect sources and sinks have to be taken into account. These indirect sources and sinks are a consequence of our limited ability to deal with the full complex system Earth-Ocean-Atmosphere on all scales of motion and to account for all physical and chemical processes in the multi-component atmospheric gas. Instead, we try to bypass these difficulties by introducing secondary or internal ‘sources’ (or ‘sinks’). These internal sources are intended to parameterize the otherwise neglected processes like turbulence, latent heat, feedback between ground and atmosphere, etc.
