Abstract

We study how the mean-square displacement R 2 of a random walker is changed on fractal structures, in particular, if there is additional disorder in the system which can be caused either by non-uniform distributions of jump rates or by an external bias field. While the effect of a singular distribution of jump rates is to enhance the fractal dimension of the walk, an external bias field leads to a logarithmic time dependence R 2 ~ ln t, which seems to hold for many fractal structures, including percolation and chain-like fractal structures in any dimension.
