Lichen Planus

Abstract

The papular disorder of skin and mucous membranes known as lichen planus (LP) is encountered throughout the world. LP has no particular predilection for any geographical area or racial group apart from the occurrence of light-induced LP (or LP actinicus), which has been reported much more frequently in sunny countries. Women seem to be affected slightly more often than men in most series1,2, although Samman3 found exactly the opposite. It is predominantly a disorder of the middle years of life, but it may present for the first time in old age and occasionally occurs in childhood.
