Abstract

We briefly review the instrumental and sampling requirements to measure and/or provide adequate data sets for global determination of the planetary radiation budget at the top of the atmosphere, the surface radiation budget parameters, cloud parameters and of the radiative flux divergence within the atmosphere. This paper does not stress other important climate parameters, such as precipitation, wind, water vapour etc. Some consideration is also given to ground-based and other validation measurements.
