Abstract

Our conference has the title “Accretion Disks and Magnetic Fields”. In my review on the early stages of star formation, I emphasised the accumulated strong evidence for the presence of dynamically important flux from the galactic magnetic field in the molecular clouds which are clearly observed to be a locale of contemporary star formation. I noted also the several papers reporting on flattened structures in some clouds. Ralph Pudritz has predicted that the discovery of disk-like regions in star-forming regions will be a growth industry: he anticipates a wealth of new observations at higher resolution.
