Abstract
The climatology of southern Africa has been reviewed by Schulze & McGee (1978) and Tyson (1986), while Preston-Whyte & Tyson (1988) have provided a very readable text describing the atmosphere and weather of southern Africa. These excellent reviews of the vagaries of the subcontinent’s climate stress the overall aridity of the area which increases from east to west. We have, accordingly, emphasized those aspects of the climate which have a more immediate effect upon regional limnology.
