Abstract

A low-temperature structural investigation of trans-PtH(CF3)-(PPh3)2 (1) shows a lengthening of C-F bonds compared to fluorocarbon compounds. It is observed that the C-F bond in 1 readily reacts with HBF4 in the presence of protic nucleophiles such as alcohols and thiols to give carbene complexes. The intermediacy of an hydridodifluorocarbene species has been confirmed by low-temperature NMR spectroscopy. The X-ray structure of an hydridocarbene complex of Pt(II) is also reported.
