X-Ray Observations of Accreting Neutron Stars

  • Chapter
Timing Neutron Stars

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 262))

Abstract

The class of accreting neutron stars that are in close binary systems is reviewed. Basic physical parameters related to their X-ray emission are summarized. The highlights of the accretion process from leaving the companion star to landing on the neutron star are considered. Recent revival of the neutron star free precession interpretation of the long-term cycles is discussed.
