Abstract
It is now generally accepted that the fluid motion within the cylinder of an internal combustion engine has a major influence on the performance of the engine. Analysis of the combustion process requires an accurate knowledge of the fluid motion within the chamber; the ignition process, the burning rate and the cycle by cycle variations are all influenced by the motion.
