Management control in the ICU

  • Chapter
Management of Intensive Care

Abstract

In all ICUs, there is a process called management control. The process has existed as long as the ICU began as a means of using nurses and high technology more effectively and efficiently, but it has not been the subject of much systematic study and analysis. Most studies of management control have been done in business organisations, and most of the control techniques have been done in these organisations. Most descriptions of management control therefore tend to assume that the process being described is taking place in a business enterprise.
