Abstract

The conflict between natural science and theology arose when the two disciplines started to talk about the same reality in different ways, and it was only resolved when they understood that each had a different cognitive status. Reconciliation came with the acceptance that they were not rivals but rather complementary approaches to the one reality. It was their full autonomy, the independence of natural science from theological concepts and vice versa, along with their distinct relations to social praxis that secured true reconciliation.
