Abstract

During the 1980s deregulation and increased competition have been the new doctrine for regulators, economists and market participants. The structural characteristics of intermediation have changed (the more common adverb is “dramatically”), blurring in a few years traditional barriers between intermediaries and markets, which had taken regulators many years to build and defend.
