A Survey of Dynamic Loading Conditions on Gear Teeth Contacts

Abstract

This paper attemps to clarify the causes and natures of dynamic phenomena on mating gear teeth and emphasizes possible contacts and structure interactions.

Based on a normal contact formulation on the action plane, a simplified dynamic model (14 degrees of freedom) of a one-stage reduction unit is set up. Assuming elastic tooth deflections and full E.H.D lubrication which insures low friction, equations of state with time varying coefficients are derived. Solutions are obtained by coupling a step by step integration and a normal Contact algorithm. At each time step, contact length and meshing stiffness, generalized displacements and instantaneous loads are computed. Some gear contact dynamic loading features are pointed out: linear couplings between supporting shafts, internal meshing excitations, rigid-body contributions and non-linearities.
