Abstract

Some 100 years ago experimental drug research in animals started on an industrial scale and the first drugs were antipyrine and acetylsalicylic acid. Experimental chemotherapy of infectious diseases was started by Paul Ehrlich who was able to standardize an animal model, the tryposoma infection of the mouse, which enabled him to detect finally the first compound active against syphilis which was tolerated by the host (Fig. 1) [1]. Compound number 606 finally was the famous Salvarsan known also as Ehrlich Hata 606.
