Abstract

D. viscosa is a circumediterranean shrub recently expanding around and between modern urban zones. The species displays the capacity to colonize new habitats.

The chapter deals with the invasion by D. viscosa in the northwestern Mediterranean Basin and emphasizes research perspectives. The first part presents biological and graphical aspects in reference to literature and personal observations. The second part discusses recent work on physiological strategies that allow the plants to cope with new mineral habitats.

Nutritional investigations show that the physiological machinery of D. viscosa is Polymorphic among and within populations and possibly represents evolution to increase the invasion capacity of the species.
