Abstract
Factors governing phagocyte populations in colon mucosa are incompletely understood. In health, macrophages and eosinophils are present to the exclusion of neutrophils (N). In acute inflammation, all three cell types are present, with N predominating. We tested the hypothesis that colon epithelial cells (CEC) influence migration of N and monocytes (M) to the lamina propria.
