Abstract

The subject of this meeting “Cold gas at high redshift” in combination with the anniversary of the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, quite naturally has prompted that most of the work presented here has been concentrating on the prospects for finding this cold gas at radio wavelengths. However, we actually already know where the majority of the cold gas at high redshift is, namely in what in optical astronomy is know as the “Damped Lyα absorbers”, or DLAs.

Based on observations obtained with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope
