Abstract
The UK has a small but difficult disposal problem with old and abandoned explosively configured CW munitions. Many of these are artillery shells that have been fired so that the fuzes are in an unstable state without the safety interlocks in place. This makes handling and transportation especially hazardous. Another problem associated with these munitions is that many are filled with thickened mustard that has polymerized over the years to form a particularly intractable form of “tarry” mustard.
