Abstract
The first half of this book introduced the reader to several principal issues related to assessing risks to the environment and human health, and to the role of different actors in that process. The second half of the book focused on the identification and assessment of radioactive contamination risk for two specific cases — Chernobyl and the Russian Far North. Taken as a complete work, the volume points to the complex nature of environmental and health risk assessment in the modern world and the important roles that scientists can play in the identification and assessment of risk.
