Abstract
The development of an adequate catalytic system is a key point in the optimisation of the valorisation of flash pyrolysis oils by catalytic hydro treating. The catalysts preparation procedure and the modification of the support play a decisive role on the reaction selectivity and activity. In this paper we discuss the structural characteristics of the catalytic solids obtained by different procedures and the influence of the preparation method on the catalytic behaviour in hydrodeoxygenation reactions of model compounds. Thermal treatments between impregnations as well as intermediary sulphidation do not modify the textural and structural characteristics of the supports but lead to the formation of more stable active phases which increase the catalytic activity. Interesting results were obtained by changing the impregnation order. Catalysts prepared by cobalt impregnation in first place show a better dispersion and a higher Co/Co+Mo ratio than those obtained by molybdenum impregnation in first place. These characteristics lead to an increase of activity in the elimination of methoxy and carboxyl groups and favour the hydrogenation of carboxyls.
