Abstract
Group B meningococci from Switzerland and France were typed by monoclonal antibodies in a dot-blot method. Group B meningococci caused from 64–74% of the cases in the 1980–1986 period. Serotyping (class 2/3 OMPs) and subtyping (class 1 OMP) allowed further definition of the strains in most cases (189/303:62%). In Switzerland, serotype 4 remained prevalent since 1980. Strains B: 15:P1. 16 increased in frequency in 1986.
