Abstract
Hyponatremia and the hypo-osmolar syndrome usually occur simultaneously, as plasma osmolality is mainly determined by the plasma sodium concentration. Hyponatremia is present when the plasma sodium concentration is lower than 135 mmol/l, (normal range = 135–145 mmol/l).
