Summary of Discussions: Phase Relations and Microstructure
Results on phase equilibria in Nd-Fe-B and related systems have been presented. Systems which were investigated over wide composition and temperature ranges are Fe-Nd, Fe-Nd-B, Fe-Dy-B and Fe-Tb-B (Max Planck Institut). Information over special temperature ranges or for compositions of technical importance was also given on the systems Gd-Fe-Ti (Centre d’Etudes Nucléaires de Grenoble), Fe-Nd-O, Fe-Nd-Dy(Tb)-B (M.P.I.) and on the effect of addition elements Zr, Nb, Mo, Cu, Co, Dy in Nd-Fe-B alloys (Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble). It was emphasized that the additions can change the intrinsic properties of the hard magnetic phase, and also influence the microstructure by forming additional phases or changing the binder-phase structure and behaviour.
