Structural and Magnetic Properties of RE2Fe17Hx (RE = Nd,Sm) Hydrides and Iron-Rich Compounds Nd(Co1-xFex)9Si2 and Gd(FexAl1-x)12

Abstract

The influence of the hydrogen absorption on the magnetic properties of RE2Fe17 (RE = Nd,Sm) compounds has been studied. After hydrogenation, the Curie temperature increases by well over 100°C for both intermetallic materials. On the other hand the new compounds Gd(FexAl1-x) and Nd(Co1-xFex)9Si2 have been obtained by melt-spinning or arc-melting. For x < 0.83, the Gd(FexAl1-x)12 materials crystallize in tetragonal ThMn12 structure type arid are ferrimagnetic. The tetragonal BaCd11 structure type is found for Nd(Co1-xFex)9Si2 silicides. In this system, the Curie temperature goes through a maximum as x increases (Tc ≃ 560 K for x = 0.22).
