Summary

The conditions for obtaining quantitative high resolution 13C-NMR spectra in solution and in the solid state (CPMAS) are evaluated. The relevant time constants for the relaxation of the spin system are determined and discussed. These time constants are determined at two different fields (2.3 and 7.0 Tesla). The quantitative data are presented. It is shown that the combination of solution and solid state spectra permits an estimate of the total lignin and carbohydrate content of the native lignocellulosic material.
