Abstract

Chemical or physical modification of the surface properties of polymeric materials is undoubtedly a fascinating field for research as well as a practical way to improve their value. Surface and not bulk properties determine the most relevant aspects of the behaviour in many technologically important fields, such as dyeing, printing, adhesion, membrane separation processes, and so on. Their influence, which is already so decisive in films and moulded materials, becomes of the utmost importance in fibres.
