Photoinitiators and Photoinitiation Mechanisms of Free-Radical Polymerisation Processes

  • H. J. Hageman

Abstract

Photoinitiated free-radical polymerisation, and crosslinking of multifunctional vinyl monomers and oligomers (prepolymers) in particular, is currently enjoying a lively commercial interest on account of its potential in a large number of applications. The reasons for the current developments are the particular attractive features of photoinitiated polymerisation processes, such as the concept of latency, high speed under mild conditions, reduced energy and space requirements, and last but not least considerable environmental advantages.
