Quark Deconfinement and J/ψ Suppression in Nuclear Collisions

Conference paper
Part of the Astrophysics and Space Science Library book series (ASSL, volume 155)

We present the physical basis for J/ψ suppression as a signal for quark deconfinement, investigate the relation between colour screening and the binding of heavy quarks, and discuss the momentum dependence of the effect. The results of these considerations are then compared to the presently available experimental results from heavy ion collisions at CERN.
