Abstract

This talk is divided in five parts. Part 1 is dealing with the problems of the standard model, while part 2 covers possible ways to extend the standard model. After discussing Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) in part 3, supersymmetric theories are analyzed in part 4. Finally, part 5 provides a lengthy discussion of a recently derived, genuine 4-dimensional superstring model, flipped SU(5) x U(1).
