Abstract
The extracranial head and neck together comprise a region of complex anatomy that challenges imaging techniques. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), by virtue of its superior soft tissue contrast and its multiplanar capability, displays the normal anatomy and the pathological conditions in great detail. Since surgical treatment is often indicated, MRI provides valuable information for the diagnosis, extent and nature of the various diseases, especially tumors encountered in the head and neck region.
