Summary

Radioactive phospholipid analogues carrying a photoactivatable group at different positions of the molecule have been synthesized to probe lipid-protein interactions at different levels of the lipid bilayer. On illumination, those protein regions exposed to lipids become labelled and can be identified thus providing information on the membrane topology of proteins and on transient lipid-protein interactions.
