Abstract

Some results from a search for forming galaxies are described. The search uses a five color (U′BVIK) deep survey to look for galaxies with the sharp breaks and the nearly flat spectrum (f v ) regions of wavelength space which should be present in high-redshift young star-forming galaxies. Such a population with a flat spectrum in the BVI bands is found at I magnitudes fainter than 23. Based on the presence of breaks in the U′ band most of the members lie in the range 2.8 < z < 3.6. Model-invariant analysis suggests that this population could easily be responsible for almost all of the early star formation in massive galaxies.
