Abstract

We present the absolute magnitude v redshift diagram for the 53 quasars of redshift z ≥ 3.0 found in two UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) fields (effective area 50 square degrees) by a UBJVRI multicolour technique. We describe the criteria adopted for selecting candidates for spectroscopic observation and explain how the well-defined selection criteria will enable the incompleteness of the sample to be quantified precisely.
