Granule Lifetimes and Dimensions as Function of Distance from a Solar Pore Region

The lifetimes of photospheric granules have been determined from cross-correlation of granulation images (von der Lühe 1983, Andreassen et al 1984, Darvann 1986). The measurements were carried out on a 19 minute long time series of solar granulation obtained with the Swedish 50 cm Vacuum Tower Telescope at La Palma (Wyller and Scharmer 1985). A rapid decrease of the granule lifetimes, from about 12 minutes close to a pore region to 5 minutes at a distance of about 10 arcseconds from the pores, is found. A morphological study of the granulation (i.e. measurement of the average granule size, number density and fractal dimension) in the same pore region has been carried out, and the results are discussed.
