Trapping intermediates in electron transfer reactions of square planar organometallic d-8 species

Abstract

Chelating ligands are of a profound benefit in stabilizing paramagnetic or other transient organometallic species. This is illustrated by a series of examples in which ortho- and bis-ortho chelated, square-planar arylmetal- d8 NiII, PdII, PtII, RhI and IrI compounds have been reacted with electrophiles H2, MeI, halogens and Me2SnBr2.
