Abstract

  1. 1.

Federal German Medicines legislation has achieved most of its ambitious goals and made the country occupy a leading position in comprehensive and efficient drug regulation.

  2. 2.

The new legislation (effective 1978) and its implementation fully comply with European Community rules.

  3. 3.

Some serious deficiencies call for attention and rapid remedy. These include improvements in the efficiency of the administrative structure, in the drug approval process and in the review of older medicines marketed prior to the implementation of the German Medicines legislation.
