SiC-Fibre Reinforced Titanium Alloys: Processing, Interfaces and Mechanical Properties

Abstract

For the development of SiC-fibre reinforced titanium alloys MMC-suited processing techniques have to be designed, and the problem of fibre-matrix interface has to be solved. Hot pressing and hot isostatic pressing are thought to be promising processing techniques on a laboratory scale, using diffusion bonding as basic mechanism. The problem of interface reactions can be solved by applying protecting coatings based on carbon.
