Abstract
The adsorption of desacetylcephalosporin C from an aqueous solution onto particles of a modified macroporous Amberlite XAD-2 resin, XAD-2-CH2-CH2-Br, using a batch stirred tank is described. The pH studies used 2.8, at 293.15 K and an ionic strength 0.1 M. Equilibrium adsorption experiments showed that a linear adsorption isotherm is appropriate to describe the adsorption on the modified resin. A theoretical model has teen developed to simulate adsorption in a batch stirred tank and includes the effects of mass transfer from the bulk liquid to the surface of the particle and diffusion within the pores of the resin, with a linear isotherm. Basic parameters such as the isotherm relationships, effective diffusivities and tortuosity factor have been determined.
