Differential Product Release from Yeast Cells by Selective Enzymatic Lysis
Differential product release from yeast cells has been achieved. This is a novel technique which has wide ranging potential as it allows the release of proteins from different cell locations with a diminished level of contaminants. This facilitates downstream processing. It has been possible to release proteins from the wall, the cytoplasm and the mitochondria in three different stages, each with a high yield for the specific protein. The overall extraction of each component was usually larger than with mechanical breakage and the total level of protein contaminants was much lower.
