Economic Process for Softening Produced Water Used in Secondary Oil Recovery

Abstract

Usually natural oil reservoirs are sufficiently pressurized to allow the recovery of about one-third of the crude oil in the deposit. A secondary recovery is possible for another third of the oil using various ways to pressurize the strata. One way to accomplish this uses hot water and high pressure steam. The water used in this process either comes from surface sources or from “produced water” which comes from the oil field itself.
