Light Scattering Measurements in the System Polystyrene-Cyclohexane Near the Miscibility Gap

The phase separation of polymer-solvent systems is detected by means of dynamic light scattering with a much higher sensitivity than with other methods in use up to now. The spinodal temperature can be determined from the extrapolation of the temperature dependence of the translational diffusion coefficient D at constant composition. The extrapolation of D to zero concentration leads to the mobility of the polymer.
