Abstract
Almost everything made in industry has components which need to be fixed together. Often mechanical fixing methods are used, e.g. screws, rivets or spot welds. In many cases these methods could be replaced by adhesive bonding to give an improved final product with a reduction in manufacturing costs. The object of this paper is to present the case for adhesive bonding, indicate how it may be used most effectively, and to illustrate its use in the automotive industry.
