Abstract

Reactions involving the stromal components of the bone marrow accompany the cytopenias and occur in many clinical conditions with or without a decrease in one or more of the peripheral blood cells. These conditions include infections, diseases of collagen, hepatic disorders, Hodgkin’s disease, malignant lymphomas and carcinomas — the last three without bone marrow involvement in the bone biopsy1–3.
