In our introduction to this book, we mentioned how neglected a field was musculoskeletal medicine within current medical education. We are sure that the reader will be surprised to learn, for example, that the mode of action and predictability of outcome of all treatments is at best but marginally understood. It is reasonable to suggest that this educational neglect is one of the causes of the current public demand for non-medical practitioners.
