Abstract
The contract no. 2016 has been signed between the commission of European Communities and a consortium of five partners Philips (prime contractor), Siemens, SGS-Thomson, Plessey and Telefunken.
It covers a period of three years. Effective work started on Feb. 1, 1989, the first year being a definition phase.
The project is headed by Europe’s most competent partners in this field. It is firmly based on common ground partially developed within previous ESPRIT projects and positively interacts with ongoing ESPRIT and RACE projects of the CEC Research Framework Programme.
The aggressive technical goals as well as the tight timeschedule requires an additional effort of about 10% for University and Research institutes support in five European countries. The project is scheduled for three years. The manpower needed, which amounts to about 210 people has already been built up.
